In the past days of 12th to 14th of October, Aveiro (Portugal) hosted the 3rd TechDays event (TechDays 2017), one of the major Portuguese events in the area of ICT & Electronics, organized by the Mayor’s office, the local University and the Institute of Telecommunications. The technology show was inaugurated by EU Commissioner for Research, Science and Innovation, Mr. Carlos Moedas.
Altice Labs, one of our partner members, was the main sponsor of this event which, besides most of the national ICT & Electronics companies, could count with the presence of technology giants like Ericsson and Bosch.
All the major national economic clusters (a total of eleven) were also represented, namely the clusters for ICT&Electronics, the Sea, the Tourism, Materials, Precision Tooling and many others. The cluster organizations provided demonstration zones with their most relevant technologic R&D based products.
The Altice Labs Stand was organized in four different areas, namely:
- The Optical Networks technologies area where the most recent products developed by the company were displayed, along with the most relevant projects executed, by geography;
- The Interactive TV area, with the most recent projects in advanced TV interfaces in display;
- The “Future Labs” area with experimental projects from the digital innovation lab, namely an wireless network controlled robotics project and natural interaction projects like the Smart Mirror prototype, with voice and gestural interaction and image overlayed transparently on a standard mirror;
- The 5G area, where Altice Labs had on display the results of H2020 projects like Selfnet, Superfluidity and SONATA, but also some fiber optic equipments which will be fundamental for the backhaul and fronthaul fiber networks supporting the future 5G Radio networks.
Side by side with Altice Labs’ stand was its partner, Ericsson, with whom Altice Labs has signed an MoU for the evaluation and development of 5G technologies. At this show Ericsson presented its first public demonstration in Portugal for 5G Radio technology.
Altice Labs and the Aveiro Mayor’s office also organized a workshop with the theme “Aveiro 5G City”, counting with Ericsson, the University of Aveiro and the Institute of Telecommunications. Altice Labs presented its H2020 projects in the area of 5GPPP, namely SONATA and 5GTANGO.
Altice Labs stand was visited by EU commissioner Carlos Moedas who followed the presentations and demonstrations with great interest.
All in all, it was an excellent multi-disciplinary technology event and an excellent opportunity to promote Altice Labs’ H2020 projects in the 5G area.
